Factor IX in the coagulation cascade

Factor IX, a glycoprotein synthesized in the liver, is essential to the coagulation of blood. IX refers to the F9 gene, a protein which is activated when a blood vessel is damaged. The absence of factor IX prevents the formation of blood clots, contributing to spontaneous or prolonged hemorrhages, and causes hemophilia B. For this project, 3Dmedicus represented the amino acid sequence of factor IX using a 3D reference file, from the liver to the appearance of an endothelial gap in a vessel. The goal was to simulate the bloodstream, to create an endothelial gap at the level of the vessel’s wall and to demonstrate how the coagulation cascade is organized.
