The grasshopper

The head of a grasshopper is composed of parts which are so fragile that it is almost impossible to handle them without the risk of damaging them. In this context, virtual dissection is an essential interactive tool.

3DMedicus didn’t create a virtual grasshopper head using as its base a giant, plaster cockroach head simply as a challenge, but because the two insects share numerous similarities. The elements making up both craniums are put together in practically the same way. The 3D modelling of some of these different elements based on high resolution photos allowed us to achieve not only a dynamic ensemble in which each anatomical part fits together but also a detailed use of textures which brings clarity to the images.
